Our S.A.F.E. Team took the first unannounced seatbelt survey October 11th and 12th (Sure enough…it rained!! LOL).
The results of the survey show that 82% of our student body, faculty, and parents are buckling up!! We ended last year with a percentage of 87%, which put us 7th best in the State for seatbelt use. We have some educational seatbelt work to do this year to get our percentage up and higher than last year’s!!!
We have a lot of fun activities planned this year and hope everyone can be a part of them again this year....and yes….we are bringing Vince and Larry back again this year!! J
Another interesting note: This year, the Kansas Department of Traffic Safety asked our Fort Scott S.A.F.E. Team to go a bit farther with the survey forms and asked us to document distracted driving stats. Just as we already were watching for seatbelt use, this year we looked for Cell Phone Use, Texting Use, or other distracted driving. Here are the stats for that:
1.55% of the people were on the phone. 0.47% were texting. 5.28% were distracted in some other way, but 92.7% weren’t distracted.
Another Another interesting note: Since the S.A.F.E. Program was established last year, there have been 3 serious accidents involving FSHS teens. In each accident, ALL DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS WERE BUCKLED UP AND NO MAJOR INJURIES WERE REPORTED!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We would also like to take a moment to welcome our new S.A.F.E. Team Members that are replacing our graduated Seniors. We had to say a fond farewell to Matt Carrillo, Jade Weeter, Jaret Thorpe, and Colton Grillot. We welcomed Ackland Milton, Michelle Buntain, Ashton Mason, Chris Carrillo, Zack Denton, and Jacob Bradbury to our 2011/2012 team. They join Cameron Woodring, Hannah Messer, Chalia Gray, Bryce Hinde, Hannah Fredericksen, Michael Nighswonger, Dakota Crumby, Dale Savage, and Katie Jo Hull.
We look forward to another awesome year and please remember to always BUCKLE UP!!
SEATBELTS ARE FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
